On behalf of league representative John Dalrymple, sponsoring committee member Bill Govett presented the honors to 155 Borden Gray G.C. Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron during a ceremony at the Sault Ste. Marie Armories.

The Dudley Roden Trophy for Squadron Proficiency (Northern Ontario) was presented in recognition of 155 Squadron’s 2003 – 2004 training year achievements.

Named in honor of Dudley Roden, who was Honourary Treasurer of the Ontario Provincial Committee for 30 years, the award was first presented in 1967.

The trophy has been won by Sault Ste Marie cadets five times before, most recently in 1993.

Squadron proficiency awards are based on regular assessments and reports by area cadet detachments and Ontario Provincial Committee Directors.

There are currently eleven air cadet squadrons in Northern Ontario.

An award from the Ontario Provincial Committee of the Air Cadet League of Canada was also presented in recognition for achieving the national goal of increasing the squadron strength by ten percent or more in the training years of 2003 – 2004.

The Royal Canadian Air Cadets operate in partnership between the Canadian Forces and the civilian Air Cadet League of Canada.

The primary goals of the organization are to promote citizenship, leadership and physical fitness among Canada’s youth.
