Biography of Eric J.G. Groulx
The following biography was supplied to SooToday News by the 49th Field Regiment:
Lieutenant-Colonel Groulx was born in Kenora, Ontario.
His military experience began in 1973 when he joined Navy League Cadets in Sudbury. After two years, he became a member of the 852 Royal Canadian Air Cadets in Chapleau.
After relocating to Sault Ste. Marie in 1979, he became a member of the local 155 Air Cadet Corps, retiring in 1983. He has been a member of the 49th Field Regiment since 1984 when he enrolled as an officer cadet.
In 1986, a year after being promoted to Lieutenant, he was attached to 2RCHA’s E Battery for a half-year.
During this time, he also completed a jump course. He has held various gun position appointments as a Lieutenant and was promoted to Captain in 1980.
He was promoted to Major in 1996 and has commanded both 30 and 148 Battery.
In 1998, Lieutenant-Colonel Groulx commanded the Northern Ontario Composite Company on deployment to Ottawa during the ice storm. Lieutenant-Colonel Groulx is employed with the Liquor Enforcement Section of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.
He resides in Sault Ste. Marie with his wife Lynda and three children: Steven, Thomas and Emily.
