Sea, army, air and police cadets test their skills in Sault Ste. Marie competition
Sault Ste. Marie – Challenging their drill, marksmanship and sporting skills, cadets from five Northern Ontario Area cadet units competed this weekend at the Sault Ste. Marie Armoury.
Approximately 200 cadets and officers from Sault Ste. Marie, Huntsville and Blind River participated.
155 Borden Gray Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron was crowned the overall champion for the second year in a row, capturing first place in drill, marksmanship and first aid.
696 Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron won the volleyball and obstacle course events, while 2310 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps won the floor hockey tournament.
Other cadet units participating in this year’s competition, hosted by 2310 Royal Canadian Army Cadets, include the Sault Squires Police Cadets, and 844 Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron from Huntsville.
The Royal Canadian Sea, Army and Air Cadet organizations form the Canadian cadet movement (CCM), Canada’s premier youth group.
The movement operates in partnership between the Canadian Forces and the civilan Navy League, Army Cadet League and Air Cadet League of Canada.
The CCM’s primary goals promote leadership, citizenship and physical fitness among Canadian youth aged 12-18 years.
Competitions such as this further promote and test these valuable life skills among the cadet participants.
