SAULT STE MARIE: The 155 Borden Gray GC Squadron is challenging you too wear your tartan on Tartan Day. Send us your Tartan photo to our Facebook or Twitter account and we will post it as part of our Tartan Day Challenge. A random draw will determine the winner of 155 Squadron 75th Anniversary Memorabilia. The Minister of Canadian Heritage officially declared April 06 Tartan Day as it is the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Arbroath in 1320, the Scottish declaration of independence. This is a special day where all varieties of Tartan are worn to celebrate the contributions of Scots and their descendents in Canada.

The 155 Borden Gray Pipe and Drum Band is authorized to wear the Royal Canadian Air Force Tartan and has worn this since the band first started parading in 1955. The 155 Squadron and the 2310 Army Cadet Combined Pipe and Drum Band who recently earned Top Cadet Pipe Band in Ontario also include Highland Dancers that perform traditional Scottish dances. The Pipers and Drummers play Scottish marching tunes to help keep the parade in step. The music preformed are stathspeys, reels, hornpipes and jigs.

The 155 Squadron was established in 1942 and is celebrating their 75th Anniversary. There will be a reunion for the 155 Alumni on the weekend of 05 to 07 May to mark this milestone. Air cadets in the 155 Squadron are aged 12 to 18 years of age. There is no cost to join or participate in the regular training that consists of citizenship, leadership while learning aviation related knowledge and flying skills using flight simulators, gliders and powered aircraft. The 155 Squadron is a member agency of the Sault Ste Marie and District of the United Way.

The photos must be in good taste and showing you or a group with Tartan on. The Tartan Challenge closes 09 April midnight and is open to everyone.
